About AMS Racing Engines

Back in the early 1970's, Steve Johnson had a desire to drag race, and to build his own drag racing engines. An extensive machining background would be necessary to make this possible. So Steve began a machinist apprenticeship at Allis-Chalmers Corporation.

While machining steam turbines at Allis-Chalmers during the day, Steve would machine engine parts in his own garage at night. In 1984 Steve decided to go his own way, and started Automotive Machine Service to build and customize racing engines.
